All individual resident applicants seeking to become licensed as Producers, Adjusters, or Title Agents must have completed a Fingerprint background check. You should seek to get fingerprinted after passing the state exam and one day before applying for the license.
Fingerprints completed for any reason outside of pursuing an insurance license from the Alabama Department of Insurance will not be accepted. Fingerprints will remain in the DOI system only 30 days after you are fingerprinted. If the application reaches the DOI after those 30 days you will have to get fingerprinted again and pay the required fee again.
For more information on fingerprinting requirements, visit https://fieldprintalabama.com/individuals.
After passing the exam, apply for your license by completing an application at http://www.nipr.com. After 5 days, check http://aldoi.gov, and go to the License Search under Producers/Agents to confirm issuance of your license. Once license is issued, you may print your license from the home page.
Individuals must complete a pre-licensing course of study for the lines of authority desired before taking any examination. The pre-licensing course must consist of 20 classroom hours per line of authority, or equivalent individual instruction, on the general principles of insurance for that line of authority. The lines of authority requiring a pre-licensing course are as follows:

Once the prelicensing course is completed and a certificate is awarded, the insurance licensing examination can be taken within one year from the date of the certificate.
