Life and Health Producers must complete 24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, are required every 2 year license term (see license term below).
50% of the required CE hours must be in classroom or approved online classroom equivalent courses.
Initial 3-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling LTC insurance products in Utah, producers must complete an initial 3-hour, state-approved LTC training course.
Ongoing 3-hour LTC training requirement: After completing the initial 3-hour training requirement, producers continuing to sell LTC must complete 3 hours of state-approved LTC training during every 24-month licensing period after the period in which they completed the initial training.

Utah producers who also sell federal flood insurance policies must complete a one-time 5-hour course approved for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) training.

Non-residents whose resident state has a reciprocal agreement with Utah, and who complies with resident CE requirements, are exempt from UT CE requirements. Licensees whose resident state is not reciprocal with UT, must meet resident UTAH CE requirements.
The license term is every 2 years based on the last day of the producer’s birth month.
Category restrictions:
50% of the required CE hours must be in classroom or approved online classroom equivalent courses. Note: A producer regardless of what lines of authority they hold can take any Utah approved CE credit to meet their requirements.

Study requirements:
Students should read the course material prior to taking the final exam.
Final Exam Requirements
Monitoring is not required in Utah.
Exam rules:
Exams are open book, and students can refer to course materials to complete the exam. The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. Students have unlimited retakes.
CE Carryover Allowance
Excess CE credits may not be carried over to the next renewal period.
Course Repetition Rules
Courses cannot be taken for credit more than once in a 2 year license term.
Certificate of Completion
AOIS provides online, printable certificates of completion in Utah. Certificates of completion will be available to print online immediately after a final exam is passed. The licensee must keep a copy of each certificate of completion in his or her file for 5 years.
CE Completion Reporting
Instant Reporting – Insurance CE credits are immediately reported to Sircon upon course completion.
License Renewal Process
The Utah Insurance Department will e-mail renewal notices to licensees at their business e-mail address. The Utah Insurance Department has mandated electronic renewal applications. Paper renewals are no longer accepted. Please note that the renewal letter received is not a renewal application.
For resident electronic renewals, go to SIRCON.
For non-resident electronic renewals, go to SIRCON or NIPR. Electronic renewal is available 24/7 but must be done before 10 pm Mountain time on the date of expiration. Renewal fees are as follows:
Individual License Renewal (including Producer, Title, Adjuster, Consultant, Managing General Agent (MGA), Reinsurance Intermediary, Third Party Administrator (TPA)): $75
Limited Lines License Renewal (Credit, Bail Bond, Legal-Expense, Car Rental, Motor Club, Crop, Self-Service Storage, Customer Service Representative (CSR), Travel, Self-Service Storage): $50
Organization License Renewal (including Producer, Title, Consultant, Third Party Administrator (TPA), Reinsurance Intermediary, Managing General Agency (MGA), Adjuster, and Limited Lines): $85
*All CE must be posted by the provider before a renewal will be processed. Time must be allowed for this process, therefore we recommend not waiting until the last minute to renew the license.
All appointments and designations will be canceled effective the expiration date if the license is not renewed.
CE Exemptions
The following exemptions are available:
A producer whose license lapses due to military service, voluntary service for a period of time designated by the person for whom the licensee provides voluntary service, or some other extenuating circumstance, such as long-term medical disability, may be exempt from CE requirements in order to reinstate the license.
A title producer who is an active member in good standing with the state bar and has met the CE requirements of the Utah State Bar is considered to have met the CE requirements for the Utah Insurance Department.
Producers licensed before April 1, 1978 may request to be exempt from CE requirements
