The Basics

Required Continuing Education Hours

Life and Health producers and Property and Casualty producers must complete 24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, are required every 2-year license term.

Flood Insurance

Licensees who write flood insurance must complete a one-time 3-hour training class on flood insurance and the National Flood Insurance Program.

Public Adjusters

All Public Adjusters must fulfill 15 CE hours every 2 year license term.

Nonresident CE Requirements

If a licensee has not taken a NAIC LTC training course in another state, the nonresident producer selling LTC in New Jersey must comply with the New Jersey LTC training requirements:

Annuity Training

Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products in New Jersey, producers must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours.

Elective Hours

Elective hours are the remaining balance of your CE requirement aside from the 4-hour course. Most licensees can satisfy this requirement by completing any approved continuing education courses we have approved for your license type. However, public adjusters will be required to satisfy ALL continuing education requirements by completing courses that are approved in the line of public adjusting. Title insurance agents are not included in the 4-hour course requirement and therefore must complete courses that are approved in the line of title insurance.

Long-Term Care (LTC)

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance products in New Jersey, nonresident producers must complete an initial 8-hour, NAIC LTC training course approved in any licensed state.
  • Ongoing 4-hour LTC training requirement: After completing the 8-hour initial training requirement, nonresident producers must complete 4 hours of state-approved LTC training every 24-month period following the initial training and every 24 months thereafter.
  • Non-resident public adjusters who satisfy the public adjuster requirement in their resident state will be deemed compliant for the New Jersey public adjuster requirement.

Nonresident licensees can renew their licenses online here.

The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

CE Carryover Allowance

No excess CE credit hours may be carried over to the next 2-year license term.

Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in a license term. This rule applies to any variation of course types (self-study, classroom equivalent, etc.)
