All Life/Health and Property/Casualty producers are required to complete:
Public Adjusters : 24 CE hours total, including:
Property and Casualty producers are able to complete 36 hours through self-study.
Resident insurance producers who sell federal flood insurance policies must complete a one-time 3-hour course approved for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
Crop Insurance producers are required to complete 18 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, are required every 3 year license term.
A roster fee of $1.00 per CE hour is required to process course completion hours in Iowa and will be added to the order upon checkout.
If a nonresident producer’s home state does not have a CE requirement, the producer must comply with the Iowa CE requirement.
Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products in Iowa, prodcuers must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours. This requirement is separate from the current requirement for Indexed Insurance.
All nonresident producers who wish to sell fixed index life products must complete an approved 4-hour training course.
Nonresident producers who have completed an 8-hour NAIC LTCP course approved for use in any other licensed state have met the Iowa LTC training requirement. Nonresident producers that have not taken an approved LTCP course in another state must meet the training requirement by completing an Iowa approved course.
The license term is the last day of the licensee’s birth month every 3 years. Licensees may track credits and verify expiration date at SBS Connect. Click here to access. There is no fee, but you must register to use this free service.
Course presentation: Self study online or correspondence.
Study requirements: Students should read course material prior to completing final exam.
Exam proctor requirements: Self-study final exams must be monitored by a disinterested third party;
Exam rules: The final exam must be passed with a grade of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. Exams are closed book. Students have unlimited retakes.
Excess CE hours may not be carried over to the next renewal.
A course may not be taken for credit more than once within a 3 year licensing term.
AOIS provides online, printable certificates of completion in Iowa. Certificate of completion will be available to print online immediately after a final exam is passed. Producers must retain a copy of each certificate of completion in their files for 4 years.
Same-day Reporting – AOIS reports course completions every business day.
A renewal notice will be sent via email (if available) by the state 60 days prior to the producer’s expiration date. The notice will state whether the CE requirement has been met and state the renewal fee.
A producer is required to renew his or her license in a timely manner, regardless of whether a notice is received from the Insurance Division. *It is recommended that CE be completed at least 1 month in advance of license renewal. Click here to check your license status.
The following individuals are exempt from CE requirements:
A producer who is an attorney licensed to sell insurance. The producer/attorney must file a report showing proof of compliance with the continuing legal education requirement for the attorney’s home state and pay the CE fee and the renewal fee.
Attorneys who do not have a CE requirement in their home states must comply with the Iowa insurance CE requirements.
A producer who is on extended active duty with the U.S. Armed Forces.
A nonresident producer who lives in a state where CE is required. These producers must file the renewal notice through the NIPR gateway. For details visit http://www.nipr.com.
A producer who is licensed for creditor surety. The producer must file the renewal report and pay the renewal fee.
